Hatha Yoga classes usually start with some breathing exercies whilst sat in a cross legged position. Following this, there is often practice of the Sun Salutations which add a dynamic and aerobic element to the class.


Once nicely warmed up. there is asana practice which brings full awareness to the breath in different poses. The emphasis is on listening to your body and working within your own limitations.


For more advanced practitioners, the practice can be made more challenging by moving in and out of postures concurrently in a ‘Hatha Flow’.  However, the main focus is on simple static postures which will develop your balance, co-ordination, flexibility and strength.


These postures include:


- Standing

- Sitting

- Supine (lying on front/back)

- Twist

- Back bends (forward/back)

- Inversions (legs higher than the heart)


To complete the class there is always a period of deep relaxation lying in corpse pose to seal the practice and enable letting go of any residual tension.

Yoga and Spiritual Awakening

Wednesdays 7.30 – 9.00pm with Rob Simpson

In this class you will learn how you can practice living in the Power of the Now. It will be a journey in consciousness through the body (using yoga stretches and breathing exercises) and mind (using meditation) to reveal the forever Spirit that is within – a space of infinite being-ness that is always-already there, within everyone and behind everything.

You can expect to do a series of (beginners) yoga stretches with breathing exercises (to raise energy) and short meditations (to focus energy). This focus will develop towards the end when there will be a longer deeper meditation. The whole process is supported and guided. The class takes the form of a meditation journey through yoga so that participants can go progressively deeper into stillness and peace. There will be a short talk (orientation) at the beginning and a brief space for questions at the end.
